Apr 29, 2026 | Event, News

The TRIGA research reactor is celebrating its 60th anniversary of operation this year. Over the past six decades, it has become one of Slovenia’s key research and educational infrastructures and an important hub of knowledge in the fields of nuclear technology, physics, and interdisciplinary sciences.

Its operation has significantly contributed to the understanding of nuclear processes, the development of research methods, and the education and training of numerous generations of experts. Since its very beginning, the TRIGA reactor has provided an indispensable environment for scientific research, student education, and international cooperation.

This anniversary offers an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of past decades, consider the role of the reactor in today’s research landscape, and look ahead to future challenges and development opportunities in the field of nuclear and related technologies.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the TRIGA research reactor’s operation, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar, will award the Jožef Stefan Institute the Golden Order of Merit for its exceptional contribution to the development of science, research, and education in the field of nuclear technology — an honour of which we are extremely proud.
