Researchers from the Reactor Physics Division of the Jožef Stefan Institute, together with colleagues from CEA Cadarache, published a scientific article in Nature Scientific Reports entitled Epithermal neutron activation dosimetry–(n,γ) reactions under boron-based filters. The article presents new possibilities for measuring the epithermal region of the neutron spectrum using the activation method.
An important part of the research was carried out at the TRIGA research reactor at the Jožef Stefan Institute, where experimental measurements were combined with advanced Monte Carlo simulations. By using boron-based neutron filters, the researchers identified nuclear reactions that provide improved sensitivity for measurements in the epithermal energy range. The results contribute to a more accurate characterisation of neutron fields in nuclear facilities. This knowledge is important for the development of new reactor technologies and for improving measurement methods.
